09X Local Call Numbers (Variable Data Field)
Field definition and scope:
Fields 090-099 are reserved for local call number use and local definition. For interchange purposes, documentation of the structure of the 09X fields and input conventions must be provided to exchange partners by the organization initiating the interchange.
The National level record requirement for these fields is Optional.

Fields 090 and 091 were made obsolete in 1977. Both indicator positions were undefined and only a subfield $a was defined in each field.

Local Call Number

Field 090 was made obsolete when the entire 09X block of numbers was reserved for local use and definition in 1982. Both indicators were undefined. The subfield codes were: $a (Local class number) and $b (Local Cutter number).
