Field definition and scope:

Field 841 contains the coded data that would have been contained in a separate holdings record in field 008 (Fixed-length Data Elements).

Each subfield contains information as follows:  subfield $a from Leader/06 (Type of record), Leader/07-08 (Undefined character positions), and Leader/09 (Character coding scheme); subfield $b from 008 (Fixed-length Data Elements); and subfield $e from Leader/17 (Encoding level).

Field 841 is used only when holdings information is embedded in a related MARC bibliographic record.  It facilitates the reformatting of the holdings information into a separate holdings record.

Field 841 is NOT repeatable.
