Field definition and scope:

Field 147 contains a named event used as a heading in an established heading record or in a traced or untraced reference record. In an established heading record, field 147 contains the established form of a named event. In a reference record, this field contains an unestablished form of a named event.

The National level record requirement for this field is Mandatory if applicable.

Field 147 is NOT repeatable.

Guidelines for applying content designators:

The content designators identify the subelements occurring in named event headings constructed according to generally accepted thesaurus-building conventions (e.g., Faceted Application of Subject Terminology (FAST)).

Named events are those which cannot be regarded as responsible agents, e.g., battles, earthquakes, famines, financial crises, fires, hurricanes, riots, strikes, volcanic eruptions, wars, etc.

Named events which can be regarded as responsible agents such as meetings or conferences as well as athletic contests, competitions, expeditions, expositions, fairs, festivals, sports events, tournaments, etc., are recorded in X11 fields.
