580 Linking Entry Complexity Note (R) (Variable Data Field)
Field 580 contains a note that expresses a complex relationship between the item described in the record and other items that cannot be adequately generated from the linking entry fields 760-787.
In some cases the field is used to state a relationship when no corresponding linking entry fields are present, such as for the following:
a regular-print reprint to provide details of the original publication;
a serial bearing a relationship to a monograph, or other non-serial publication;
a serial bearing a relationship to one or more publications which cannot be named;
a serial issued in more than one frequency when two or more records are required.
When used, this field appears in addition to any relevant linking entry fields.
The National level record requirement for this field is Mandatory if applicable.
Field 580 is repeatable.
