Description/Instructions

Field 700 contains personal names used as added entries.  Words, phrases, initials, or symbols used by an author to conceal his identity are considered personal names.

For serials, this field is most commonly used for editors of serials or for persons responsible for the publishing/issuing of the serial.  For integrating resources, it may be used for persons credited with having some role in creating the content of the resource, but not chosen as the main entry for the record.

First indicator - Type of personal name entry element

The first indicator describes the form of the name.

0    Forename.

Consider as forenames:  names having the structure of forenames (direct order), initials in direct order, or a characterizing phrase in direct order.  In case of doubt as to whether a name is a forename or a surname, consider it a forename.

700 0# Father Divine.

700 0# Adunis, $d 1930-

1    Surname.

Consider as surnames:  names formatted in inverted order (surname, forename) or names without forenames when known to be surnames.  If there is uncertainty that a name without forename(s) is a surname, use first indicator value "0."  Prases, when formulated with inversion and an entry element similar to a surname, are treated as a surname.

700 1# Fairfield, Richard, $d 1937-

700 1# Powers, Judith.

700 1# LaGorce, John Oliver, $d 1880-1949.

700 1# Senger und Etterlin, Ferdinand Maria von.

Second indicator - Type of added entry

Second indicator value "2" is used for analytical added entries.  For other added entries, the 2nd indicator value is blank (#).

Subfields

For continuing resources, the most commonly used subfields, in input order, are:  $a, $q, $e (rare serials only), $d, $t.  For a description and examples of other subfields defined for this field, see Headings - General Information.

$a  Personal name.

700 1# Thallmann, Hans Ernst.

700 1# Sawyer, Susan.

$q  Fuller form of name.

Use for parenthetical qualifiers which are expansions of initials in personal names.  Also use when an unused forename (i.e., a forename not represented by an initial) is present in a parenthetical qualifier.

700 1# Edwards, R. G. $q (Robert Geoffrey), $d 1924-

700 1# Rose, F. Clifford $q (Frank Clifford)

700 1# Huggins, Kenneth $q (Kenneth Royce), $d 1949-

$e  Relator term.

According to CONSER policy, give the designation of function only for illustrators (ill.), except when cataloging rare serials.  (Cf. LCRI 21.0D.)

$d  Dates associated with a name.

Dates may be qualified by letters, month and day, and/or marks of punctuation.  Common date qualifiers are "b.", "d.", "ca.", "fl.", etc.

700 1# Crosby, Everett Uberto, $d 1871-1960.

700 1# Kim, In-sik, $d fl. 1972-

700 1# Gropp, Arthur Eric, $d 1902-. $t Bibliography of Latin American bibliographies.
