The categories of material for which field 007 is applicable in bibliographic records are described by a one-character code entered in position 007/00.  The meanings of the remaining character positions in field 007 are dependent upon the value in this character position.

Only the one-character codes and categories are listed in the table below.  Each category of material, when selected, has a detailed description and its subsequent position definition tree.  Examples of field 007 are given only in the specific category of material sections.

Validity by material type:  For the 007 fields, the values for each data element are not listed, except for 007/00 (Category of material).  In all cases, all values are valid for BK, CF, MP, MU, CR, VM and MX.  Thus while the 007 defined for globe still pertains only to globe material, it may be used in a BK, MU, etc. record.
