Description/Instructions

Field 534 contains information about the original publication when the record in hand describes a photoreproduction, a facsimile, or a microform reproduction.  Details relevant to the original are given in field 534 when they differ from the information describing the reproduction.

For serials, field 534 is used for microforms cataloged by the Library and Archives Canada.  Other CONSER members use field 533 for microforms to cite the details of the microform (according to the provisions of LCRI Chapter 11) and field 580 for reprints to cite the details of the original.

Editing instructions

The elements of field 534 are separated by ISBD punctuation (e.g., a colon is given between place and publisher, series statement is enclosed in parentheses).
